Features of Unit Investment Trusts

UITs offer the convenience and diversification of owning a portfolio of securities in a packaged investment. These investment vehicles are professionally-selected fixed portfolios that allow investors to know what securities are held in the UIT as of date of deposit. UITs also have a defined life, allowing investors to rebalance their investment upon maturity.

Consider UITs if you are seeking:
  • a portfolio with known holdings as of date of deposit
  • potential monthly income
  • a cost effective way to invest in a convenient investment package that focuses on a stated investment objective
  • professional selection

Redemptions of units will be made at a price that may be more or less than the original price paid. UITs are fixed and unmanaged. It is possible for you to lose money investing in UITs. UITs may terminate early as described in the prospectus.

Claymore UITs may provide investors a convenient approach to investing through the following features:
  • a mandatory termination date1
  • diversification
  • daily liquidity2
  • fully invested3
  • known portfolio4
  • no manager driven style drift

1 UITs may terminate early as described in the prospectus.
2 Redemptions will be at a price that may be more or less than the original price paid.
3 The trust may hold limited cash positions.
4 As of date of deposit.

Known portfolio
The securities of a UIT portfolio are selected according to the stated investment objective of the underlying UIT. Once the securities have been selected, the portfolio will remain relatively fixed. Claymore offers a variety of UITs to help meet investors investment needs. A known portfolio may help avoid overweighting of securities.
Defined life
UITs have a set termination date. This allows investors the ability to meet with their financial advisor and revisit their investments. Trusts may terminate early as described in the trust prospectus.
Convenience
Investors have the ability to invest in a convenient, possibly diversified, investment package that focuses on a stated investment objective. UITs have a trustee responsible for collecting and distributing income, safe-keeping securities and record keeping.
Diversification
Claymore UITs may invest in an array of stocks, bonds, or closed-end funds that seek to meet the stated investment objective of the UITs and package these securities into a potentially diversified portfolio. The average financial advisor might find it difficult, expensive and time consuming to construct a portfolio of individual securities such as those contained within a UIT.
Daily liquidity
Investors may redeem units of a trust on any business day at the liquidation price, which may be more or less than the original purchase price. Investors should be aware that UITs are fixed and unmanaged. It is possible to lose money by investing in UITs.
Fully invested
Claymore UITs are fully invested which means that a trust does not hold cash in hopes of timing the market to post future gains in the portfolio. Having a portfolio fully invested potentially allows for every invested dollar to work for the investor. It is important to note that UITs may hold limited cash positions.

Past performance does not guarantee future results. Investment return and principal value will fluctuate with changes in market conditions. Investors units, when redeemed, may be worth more or less than their original cost.

Investors should consider the investment objectives and policies, risk considerations, charges, and ongoing expenses of these investments carefully before investing.
